Binder in plaats van geschorste Matsushita

ART Grand Prix heeft Rene Binder aangesteld als vervanger van de geschorste Nobuharu Matsushita. De Japanner mag niet racen omdat hij in Bakoe gevaarlijk rijgedrag vertoonde. Daardoor keert Binder in Oostenrijk terug in de GP2, al is het vooralsnog maar voor één weekend.

"Ik wil ART Grand Prix bedanken voor de gelegenheid om in mijn thuisrace aan de start te staan", begint de Oostenrijker. "Ik vind de GP2 een leuke klasse en ik was er nog niet klaar mee. Ik heb altijd aangegeven dat als ik tijdens het seizoen een kans bij een topteam zou krijgen, ik niet zou aarzelen om die uitdaging aan te gaan. Natuurlijk zal ik een paar rondjes nodig hebben om te wennen, maar ik kan gelukkig rekenen op de steun van een van de meest succesvolle raceteams in Europa."

Binder is dit seizoen actief in de Formule V8 3.5. Tussen 2012 en 2015 reed hij voor diverse teams in de GP2, zonder ooit echt indruk te maken. Een week na de Red Bull Ring keert Matsushita terug bij ART Grand Prix voor de ronde op Silverstone.
