Jordan King wint sprintrace op Silverstone, Daniel de Jong 16e

In lastige weersomstandigheden heeft Jordan King de sprintrace van de GP2 Series op Silverstone gewonnen. Na 21 rondjes bleef de Brit Luca Ghiotto en Oliver Rowland voor.

Het was voor King de tweede zege in een sprintrace in twee weekenden, nadat hij ook in Oostenrijk dat kunstje had geflikt. Aanvankelijk werd de Racing Engineering-coureur gevolgd door Nobuharu Matsushita, Norman Nato, Rowland en Ghiotto, maar Nato had moeite het tempo te volgen en viel snel terug. Ghiotto bewandelde de omgekeerde weg en lag na elf ronden tweede. De Italiaan leek op weg naar de zege, maar King gaf hem geen kans en liep in de slotfase zelfs weg. Een regenbui kon daar niets aan veranderen maar zorgde wel voor een foutje bij Matsushita, die de derde podiumplek cadeau deed aan Rowland.

Daniel de Jong kende een lastige tweede race in Groot Brittannië. De Nederlander kwam niet verder dan de zestiende plaats.
