Einde van droogte zorgt voor opluchting bij Pierre Gasly

Eind 2013 werd Pierre Gasly kampioen in de Formule Renault 2.0. Sindsdien had de Fransman echter geen race meer gewonnen, tot afgelopen zaterdag op Silverstone.

Na ruim duizend dagen zonder zege, won Gasly de hoofdrace van de GP2 op Silverstone. Dat leverde de reservecoureur van Red Bull een geweldig gevoel op. "Het voelde fantastisch. Ik heb jarenlang hard gewerkt. Ik doe mijn best om races en kampioenschappen te winnen, en als dat niet lukt is dat frustrerend. Gelukkig heb ik veel goede mensen om mij heen die mij vooruit stuwen. Hopelijk kan ik dit jaar nog meer winnen," was de reactie van Gasly tegen F1i.com.

Na zijn test voor Toro Rosso in Barcelona, mocht Gasly op Silverstone plaatsnemen in de Red Bull. De 20-jarige is blij met die mogelijkheid en hij wil het team graag overtuigen dat hij klaar is voor een stoeltje bij Toro Rosso in 2017. "Je krijgt niet vaak de kans om plaats te nemen in een Red Bull, dus ik heb mijn best gedaan en het team geholpen om het plan af te werken. Ik moet mijn best doen en op alle fronten laten zien dat ik klaar ben voor volgend seizoen."

Omdat Carlos Sainz al bevestigd is bij Toro Rosso voor volgend jaar, zal Gasly moeten duelleren met Daniil Kvyat voor het tweede stoeltje. Met dat gevecht is hij echter nog niet bezig. "Ik focus me op mezelf en ik doe gewoon mijn best."
