Giovinazzi pakt zege in sprintrace op Spa, De Jong 16e

De sprintrace van de GP2 Series op Spa-Francorchamps is gewonnen door Antonio Giovinazzi. De Italiaan werkte zich in de openingsfase sterk naar voren en legde daar de basis voor zijn zege. Gustav Malja werd tweede en pakte daarmee zijn eerste GP2-podium, voor de als derde geëindigde Luca Ghiotto.

Malja startte de race van pole na zijn achtste plaats in de race van zaterdag en hij behield bij de start relatief eenvoudig zijn koppositie. Giovinazzi verprutste zaterdag zijn start nog, maar dit maal klom hij op naar de tweede plaats. Iets verder naar achteren vochten kampioenschapsleider Pierre Gasly en Oliver Rowland een fel duel uit, wat Gasly op schade aan zijn voorvleugel kwam te staan.

Die schade deerde Gasly echter niet. Nadat Rowland een ronde later al aan de kant gezet werd, maakte de Fransman een mooie opmars door het veld. Met mooie acties wist hij enkele concurrenten te passeren en uiteindelijk als vierde aan de meet te komen. Aan kop bleef de situatie ook niet zoals die was. Giovinazzi bleek iets sneller te zijn dan Malja en in ronde acht ging de Italiaan voorbij aan de Zweed. Daarna reed de Prema-coureur relatief eenvoudig naar de zege, voor Malja en Ghiotto, die vrij onzichtbaar naar het podium reed.

Daniël de Jong leek lange tijd op weg naar een zeventiende plaats, maar in de laatste ronde werd hij gepromoveerd naar de zestiende plaats. Daarvoor mag de Nederlander Sergei Sirotkin en Artem Markelov bedanken. De Russen kwamen elkaar in de laatste bocht tegen, waardoor Markelov de finish niet kon bereiken. Een straf voor het incident dreigt nog voor Sirotkin, die met zijn negende plaats toch al geen punten scoorde en daardoor Gasly verder zag uitlopen.

Was een flinke rampartij van Sirotkin in de laatste bocht voor de finish. Markelov stond slechts 10 meter voor de streep kapot.

Geef die Gasly zo snel mogelijk een zitje in de f1 alsjeblieft ter vervanging van een andere niks (meer) toevoegende coureur.

Ja Daniel wordt 16e prima toch.
Die jongen zal genoeg zelfreflectie hebben om te weten dat hij geen hemelbestormer is en de formule 1 wereld in 2017 op zijn kop zal zetten.
Wel rijdt hij op de mooiste circuits ter wereld over de hele wereld in een super snelle race auto met dank aan zijn vader, ze zijn nou eenmaal rijk en genieten daar van.
Dat doet hij goed, die jongen heeft de tijd van zijn leven terwijl wij 6 hoog achter in een kamertje ergens in Nederland commentaar op zijn hobby zitten te leveren.
