Giovinazzi achteraan gezet na rijden met onreglementaire bandenspanning

Een fikse domper voor Prema-coureur Antonio Giovinazzi. De Italiaan, die voor thuispubliek al de pole miste, kreeg na de kwalificatie te horen dat hij de GP2-race van vanmiddag achteraan zal starten. De beslissing werd genomen door de stewards nadat er een onreglementaire bandenspanning werd geconstateerd.

Giovinazzi is niet de enige die bestraft werd voor het euvel. Ook Arden-coureur Nabil Jeffri, die zijn beste prestatie behaalde met een achtste startplaats, wordt naar achteren gezet. Door de straf van Giovinazzi start Markelov nu als tweede. De straf is gunstig nieuws voor de teamgenoot van Giovinazzi, Pierre Gasly. Het Red Bull-talent heeft nu een goede kans zijn voorsprong in het kampioenschap verder uit te breiden. De Fransman heeft nu 25 punten voorsprong op teamgenoot Giovinazzi.
