Ghiotto wint sprintrace, Gasly loopt in op Giovinazzi

De seizoensfinale is pas over een maand in Abu Dhabi, maar de GP2 kan zich nu al opmaken voor een spannende titelstrijd. Pierre Gasly zal samen met Antonio Giovinazzi uitmaken wie de nieuwe kampioen gaat worden. Waar Giovinazzi gisteren goede zaken deed, was het vandaag Pierre Gasly die zich herstelde van een dramatische hoofdrace gisteren. Luca Ghiotto won de sprintrace.

Gasly startte de race als elfde, Giovinazzi als achtste. Aan de meet was het echter Gasly die voor Giovinazzi eindigde. De Fransman kende een sterke race en finishte als derde, voor teamgenoot Antonio Giovinazzi. Bovendien scoorde Gasly twee bonuspunten door de snelste ronde te rijden. Het gat tussen Gasly en Giovinazzi is nu zeven punten, in het voordeel van Giovinazzi.

Voor Daniël de Jong werd het een weekend om te vergeten. De Nederlander eindigde gisteren in de achterhoede, vandaag viel de MP Motorsport-coureur uit na een rondje. Over ruim een maand weten wie de nieuwe GP2-kampioen gaat worden. Mocht Gasly het worden dan is de kans groot dat hij volgend jaar een rol krijgt in de Formule 1. Kvyat is nog niet bevestigd en Red Bull lijkt nog te twijfelen of ze de Rus willen houden. Giovinazzi wordt in verband gebracht met een rol bij het Formule 1-team van Williams.
