Pierre Gasly kampioen, Alex Lynn sluit seizoen winnend af

Pierre Gasly heeft dankzij een negende plaats de titel in de GP2 in de wacht gesleept. De Fransman startte de race als achtste, verloor gedurende de race een plekje aan Mitch Evans, maar hield genoeg punten over om de opvolger te worden van Stoffel Vandoorne. Alex Lynn sloot de laatste sprintrace van het jaar als winnaar af, de Britse testrijder van Williams controleerde de race en scoorde zodoende zijn derde overwinning van het jaar.

Gasly zette gisteren al een belangrijk stap naar de titel door de hoofdrace te winnen, na te zijn gestart op pole. Omdat rivaal en teamgenoot Antonio Giovinazzi een mindere race kende, ging Gasly als leider in het kampioenschap de sprintrace in. Gasly deed in de sprintrace vervolgens geen gekke dingen en hield acht punten voorsprong over op teamgenoot Giovinazzi.

In een verder saaie race kon Daniel de Jong al snel uitstappen. De Nederlander werd aangereden door Luca Ghiotto en kon niet meer verder. Lynn controleerde de race vanaf pole, Johnny Cecotto werd tweede, terwijl Renault-reservecoureur Sergey Sirotkin zijn seizoen besloot met een derde plaats. Matsushita werd keurig vierde, voor Nato en Giovinazzi.

Ondanks het behalen van de titel zal Gasly volgend jaar nog geen Formule 1 rijden. Red Bull wil de Fransman nog een jaartje laten rijpen en ging op safe door het contract van Daniil Kvyat bij Toro Rosso te verlengen.

Hoeveel races rijden ze wel niet in een weekend? Ik dacht altijd 2!?
Maar als Lynn 3 overwinningen op rij heeft geboekt, en de zin daar onder staat vermeld dat Gasly gisteren won? Dan heb ik een paar races gemist volgens mij!?

  Als Renault wat geduldiger was geweest hadden ze m misschien als wisselgeld voor motorkorting kunnen krijgen. Maar die zetten dus Palmer er nog een jaar neer..
