Coloni strikt Brendon Hartley voor Monza en Abu Dhabi

Brendon Hartley zal komend weekend in Monza zijn GP2-debuut maken. De Nieuw-Zeelander zal Vladimir Arabadzhiev vervangen bij het team van Coloni. Ook het laatste raceweekend van dit seizoen, dat is Abu Dhabi verreden wordt, zal Hartley rijden.

Hartley begon het jaar als test- en reserverijder van Red Bull en Toro Rosso en maakte ook deel uit van het Young Driver Program van Red Bull. Enkele maanden geleden werd de 20-jarige coureur echter uit het opleidingsprogramma gezet en verloor hierdoor meteen zijn stoeltje in de World Series by Renault.

Coloni heeft besloten om de Nieuw-Zeelander een nieuwe kans te geven. "We zijn erg blij dat Brendon deel uitmaakt van ons team", vertelde teameigenaar Paolo Coloni. "Het is een erg getalenteerde coureur die door Red Bull aangewezen was als hun testrijder. We gaan een grote uitdaging tegemoet omdat Brendon nog nooit in een GP2-auto heeft gereden, maar we zijn ervan overtuigd dat we, ondanks de korte tijd, er een mooi weekend van kunnen maken."

"De GP2 is de grootste opstapklasse naar de Formule 1 toe en ik ben erg blij dat ik komend weekend mijn debuut mag maken, al weet ik dat het een erg grote uitdaging wordt op Monza", vertelde Hartley. "Ik deed het goed in de simulator van Coloni, maar het zal zeker niet gemakkelijk worden om te strijden tegen de coureurs die al het hele seizoen in deze klasse rijden."
