Giedo van der Garde krijgt gridpenalty van 10 plaatsen

Na afloop van de kwalificatiesessie in Abu Dhabi zijn er zes coureurs bestraft met een gridpenalty. Onder andere GP2-kampioen Pastor Maldonado en de als tweede gekwalificeerde Dani Clos zullen tien plaatsen terug worden gezet voor de eerste race, net als Giedo van der Garde.

Zes rijders zouden op het einde van de kwalificatie het rode licht in de pitstraat genegeerd hebben. Clos, die de tweede tijd reed, zal tien plaatsen terug worden gezet, net als kersvers kampioen Pastor Maldonado (gekwalificeerd als vijftiende), Jerome D'Ambrosio (21e), Jules Bianchi (zesde), Sam Bird (tiende) en Giedo van der Garde (achtste). Sergio Perez schuift hierdoor op naar de tweede startplaats en lijkt hiermee vrijwel zeker de tweede positie in het kampioenschap te kunnen behouden.
