Alvaro Parente vervangt zieke Vietoris in Barcelona

Christian Vietoris zal komend weekend niet deelnemen aan de GP2-races op het circuit van Barcelona. De Duitse coureur heeft moeten afzeggen wegens hevige hoofdpijn die hem al bijna twee weken achtervolgt na een crash in Turkije.

Vietoris, die ook in de DTM actief is voor Mercedes als teamgenoot van Renger van der Zande, crashte hard in de seizoensopener van de GP2 in Turkije en kampt sinsdien met hevige hoofdpijn. Alvaro Parente, die in 2008 de GP2-race in Barcelona al op zijn naam schreef, vervangt de Duitser bij Racing Engineering.

"Het heeft voor mij geen zin om dit raceweekend te rijden", vertelde Vietoris. "Ik heb sinds mijn crash in Istanbul Park al last van flinke hoofdpijn en het is geen goed idee om nu alweer in een formule-auto te gaan racen. Mijn deelname aan het DTM-weekend in Zandvoort afgelopen week heeft de situatie er niet beter op gemaakt, maar het is ook niet erger geworden."

"Ik heb gewoon nog vijf of zes extra dagen rust nodig en hopelijk ben ik er in Monaco dan weer bij. Dit is wel erg jammer, want ik had vorig jaar een goed weekend in Barcelona", aldus Vietoris.
