Giedo van der Garde tevreden met tweede startplaats

Giedo van der Garde zal zaterdag de eerste GP2-race in Valencia starten vanaf de tweede plaats. In de kwalificatie op vrijdag werd hij met een minimaal verschil verslagen door teamgenoot Charles Pic, waardoor het Spaanse team van Addax de volledige eerste rij bezet in hun thuisrace.

Van der Garde stond lange tijd bovenaan in de kwalificatie, tot Pic in de slotfase een paar honderdsten van zijn tijd afknabbelde. "Op de eerste set banden ging het erg goed", zei de Nederlander. "Maar op het tweede setje konden we de tijd niet verbeteren, omdat de training twee keer werd onderbroken. Dat is natuurlijk jammer, maar ik ben blij met de tweede plaats. Ook voor het team, dat erg blij is met dit resultaat. Hopelijk heb ik morgen, net als eigenlijk altijd, een goede start en een goede eerste ronde. En dan zien we dan wel verder."

De eerste race in Valencia start zaterdag om 15.40 uur.
