Giedo van der Garde knokt zich naar de vierde positie

Giedo van der Garde heeft zich in de eerste GP2-race in Hongarije naar de vierde plaats geknokt. De Nederlander in de McGregor-Addax behoorde tot de snelste mannen van het veld en was één van de weinige coureurs die daadwerkelijk kon inhalen op het bochtige baantje.

"Ik had een superstart vanaf de zevende plaats", aldus Van der Garde. "Ik werd echter wat opzij gedrukt, zodat ik daar niet echt van kon profiteren. In de openingsfase schoot het niet echt op, omdat de banden nog wat veel rotzooi op zich hadden van gisteren. Ook verliep de communicatie met de pitcrew niet goed, omdat ik ze niet kon horen. Hierdoor moesten ze me via het pitbord vertellen om binnen te komen, wat eigenlijk te laat was."

"Ik verloor hierdoor twee plaatsen, maar die kon ik gelukkig weer terugpakken. Onze snelheid is uitstekend, dus hopelijk kunnen we morgen voor het podium gaan."
