Pirelli stelt extra setje slicks beschikbaar voor GP2-rijders

Bandenleverancier Pirelli voorziet de GP2-coureurs vanaf Silverstone van een extra setje slicks. De Italiaanse bandenfabrikant heeft in samenspraak met de organisatie van de raceklasse besloten om een extra setje van de harde band beschikbaar te stellen. Daardoor komt het totaal aantal setjes droogweerbanden voor GP2-rijders voor een raceweekend op vijf; drie hard en twee zacht, waarvan een setje hard voor de kwalificatie afgestaan moet worden.

GP2-baas Bruno Michel: "Bandenmanagement en strategie zijn meer dan ooit sleutelelementen in de Formule 1. Ons doel als GP2 is om coureurs voor te bereiden op de volgende stap, richting de koningsklasse van de autosport. Gezien het gemak waarmee onze rijders zich aanpassen aan de Formule 1 als ze de sprong wagen, slagen we aardig in de missie. Echter, dat betekent niet dat we niet kunnen evolueren om de preparatie nog verder te verbeteren. Met een extra setje slicks stellen we de teams en coureurs in staat om meer diverse tactieken te bedenken. Rijders kunnen daarmee tijdens de vrije training meer tijd op de baan doorbrengen, net als in de Formule 1 het geval is. Ik ben verguld dat Pirelli heeft ingestemd met deze ingreep om de show te verbeteren."
