Zeges voor Villa en Pantano, Viso overleeft zware crash

Javier Villa en Giorgio Pantano hebben de overwinningen op het circuit van Magny-Cours in de GP2 voor zich opgeëist. In Frankrijk was Pantano de snelste in de eerste race. Villa won de sprintrace en dat betekende zijn eerste zege in de GP2. Ho-Pin Tung eindigde twee keer buiten de top tien.

De eerste race werd dan wel gewonnen door Pantano, maar de aandacht ging nog meer uit naar de toestand van Ernesto Viso. De Venezolaan maakte een huiveringwekkende crash mee, maar heeft daar nagenoeg geen schade aan overgehouden. Met een lichte hersenschudding en enkele kneuzingen mocht Viso van geluk spreken.

Aanleiding voor de crash was de start van de eerste race. Teamgenoten Andreas Zuber en Timo Glock vertrokken van de eerste starttij, maar reden allebei zo erg naar binnen dat ze elkaar elimineerden. De raceleiding wilde de safety car inzetten, maar niet iedereen had dat in de gaten. Michael Ammermuller minderde alvast vaart bij het uitkomen van de Adelaide-hairpin.

Viso reed achter de Duitser en lanceerde zich vol over het achterwiel van zijn voorganger. Wat volgde was een angstaanjagende vlucht metershoog in de lucht, door een reclamebord, op en over een betonnen muur en door een baanpost waar marshalls moesten duiken voor hun leven. Van de auto was weinig meer over, van Viso gelukkig wel. Hij wil volgende week op Silverstone zelfs alweer aan de start verschijnen.

De race op Magny-Cours was de eerste race die Viso dit jaar reed. zijn nieuwe teamgenoot Javier Villa won de tweede race en droeg de zege aan zijn zwaar gecrashte stalgenoot op. Na wat er met Ernesto gebeurd is in race 1 is het geweldig om te horen dat hij het goed maakt. Dat ik nu win is daarom een perfect resultaat voor ons.
