Melker: "Fantastisch om eerste pole in mijn carriére te scoren!"

Nigel Melker zorgde vandaag voor een grote verrassing. De Nederlander was in de kwalificatie voor de eerste GP3-race ooit de allersnelste wat betekend dat hij die eerste race vanaf de pole mag vertrekken. En dat is pas de allereerste keer voor Melker.

"Het is echt fantastisch om hier mijn eerste pole position van het nieuwe seizoen in de GP3 Series te pakken! Hier heb ik alleen maar van mogen durven dromen. Dit is bovendien mijn allereerste pole position in mijn autosportcarrière. In de afgelopen maanden heb ik keihard gewerkt en daar pluk ik nu de vruchten van."

"Ook mijn complimenten aan het team. Samen hebben we een goede job gedaan met het oog op het verdere verloop van het weekend. Eind van de middag staat de eerste race in de GP3 Series op het programma. Ik zal gewoon mijn ding doen en proberen zo hoog mogelijk te eindigen."

Renger van der Zande start de eerste race als negende.
