Renger van der Zande: "Wat is dit een rotweekend"

Renger van der Zande heeft niet de seizoensstart gehad die hij voor ogen had in het nieuwe GP3-kampioenschap. De Nederlander was de snelste in de vrije training, negende in de kwalificatie, maar kende veel pech in de eerste race vanmiddag.

Van der Zande moest bij de start meteen uitwijken voor zijn teamgenoot Nigel Melker die zeer slecht wegkwam vanaf de pole. "Dit durfde ik in mijn slechtste dromen niet te bedenken", aldus Renger. "Met mijn ervaring en met het sterke RSC Mücke-team leken mijn kansen maximaal. En ik was ook steeds bij de snelste drie."

"En dan loopt zo'n seizoenstart op zo'n manier. Door de IJslandse aswolk is mijn vlucht naar huis ook al gecancelled, haha. Ik hoop nog maar één ding, een enorme grote plensbui morgen, waardoor ik in de zondagrace de zaken nog een beetje naar mijn hand kan zetten. Maar vooralsnog is dit een rotweekend"
