De tweede race in Hockenheim was geen succes voor Renger van der Zande. Geheel buiten zijn schuld om werd de Nijmegenaar uit de race getikt in de eerste ronde. Het gevoel dat blijft overheersen is echter de blijdschap met de podiumplaats in de eerste race.

"Vandaag was jammer", zei Renger. "Ik kon er niks aan doen. Ik draaide de hairpin in en achter mij probeerde iemand vier man uit te remmen. Ik was nummer vijf... Het is vervelend, maar dit incident was geen goede afspiegeling van het weekend. De podiumplaats van gisteren, daar gaat het om. Dat was een mooie prestatie en een enorme opkikker voor ons allemaal. Vanaf nu richt ik mijn pijlen op Budapest, waar we volgende week alweer gaan rijden. Kom maar op!"
