Nico Müller pakt zege in eerste GP3-race op Hungaroring

Nico Müller heeft vandaag de eerste GP3-race van het weekend op zijn naam geschreven. De Duitser bleef kampioenschapsleider Esteban Gutierrez voor. Renger van der Zande reed een redelijke race en eindigde als negende.

Robert Wickens kende een goede start vanaf de vierde plaats en ging meteen al twee man voorbij. Echter, in de volgende bochten verloor de Canadees deze posities weer, waardoor Müller de race leidde voor Gutierrez. De kampioenschapsleider kwam 1,4 seconden tekort op de overwinning, maar breid zijn leiding in het kampioenschap wel uit.

Stefano Coletti eindigde als derde, gevolgd door Dean Smith. Mirko Bortolotti reed lange tijd op de vijfde plaats rond, maar in de allerlaatste bocht viel zijn auto stil waardoor Antonio Felix da Costa zijn plaats kon overnemen. Bortolotti eindigde wel als zesde, vlak voor Josef Newgarden en Alexander Rossi.

Renger van der Zande kende een behoorlijk sterke race en maakte zijn slechte kwalificatie voor een groot deel goed. De Nederlander eindigde de race als negende, terwijl Nigel Melker als 23e finishte.
