DRS vanaf volgend jaar ook in de GP3

Het Drag Reduction System maakt in 2017 zijn opwachting in de GP3 Series. Daarmee treedt de opstapklasse in de voetsporen van de Formule 1 en de GP2, waarin het systeem om inhalen te bevorderen reeds gemeengoed is. Vanaf volgend jaar is DRS dus ook in de GP3 aanwezig.

GP3-baas Bruno Michel: "We hebben DRS in de GP2 op de auto's gezet zodat de coureur er alvast aan konden wennen voordat ze de stap naar de Formule 1 zouden maken. Het systeem werkt op precies dezelfde wijze als in de Formule 1, met dezelfde meetpunten en DRS-zones. Ik wil benadrukken dat we DRS niet geadopteerd hebben om de show te verbeteren, want de GP2 was al zeer vermakelijk. Het was alleen om de rijders te laten trainen met deze functionaliteit."

"We hebben dit jaar een nieuwe auto geïntroduceerd in de GP3 en over de betrouwbaarheid van die bolide zijn we honderd procent tevreden. Daarom hebben we besloten om volgend seizoen een extra laag aan de GP3 toe te voegen met de komst van DRS. Op die manier kunnen de coureurs zich beter voorbereiden op de sprong naar de GP2. Ook zal het de GP3-races ten goede komen. Het begin van dit jaar was een beetje vlak, maar de races zijn recent een stuk leuker geweest."
