Hyman pakt eerste GP3-zege, Schothorst vijftiende

Raoul Hyman heeft zijn eerste zege in de GP3 te pakken. De Zuid-Afrikaan mocht van pole beginnen en reed gecontroleerd naar de zege. Guiliano Alesi, zoon van oud Formule 1-coureur Jean Alesi, werd tweede. Nirei Fukuzimi besloot het podium met een derde plaats, terwijl Steijn Schothorst als vijftiende over de streep kwam.

Bij de start hield Hyman zijn eerste plek vast, terwijl Alesi van de derde naar de tweede plek schoof. Fukuzimi maakte gedurende de race de meeste progressie: de Japanner startte als zesde om als derde over meet te komen. Lang zag het er naar uit dat Tveter de laatste podiumplaats zou gaan pakken, maar de Amerikaan liet zich verrassen door Fukuzimi in de voorlaatste ronde.

De laatste ronde van de race werd opgeschrikt door een stevige crash van Dorian Boccolacci. De coureur uit Frankrijk lanceerde zich op het wiel van concurrent Lorandi. Boccalacci ging meerdere keren over de kop, maar liep geen verwondingen op bij zijn crash.

George Russell pakte gisteren nog de zege, maar kwam vanaf een achtste startplaats niet verder dan een zesde plaats aan de finish. Door de derde plaats van Fukuzumi is de Japanner de nieuwe leider in het kampioenschap.

De volgende races in de GP3 zijn volgende week op het circuit van Silverstone.
