George Russell op pole, Schothorst slechts vijftiende

Mercedes-talent George Russell heeft de pole position voor de GP3 hoofrace voor zich opgeëist. De Brit, vorig jaar nog actief in de Formule 3, was nipt sneller dan teamgenoot Anthoine Hubert. Nirei Fukuzimi start als derde, Steijn Schothorst kwam niet verder dan een vijftiende tijd.

Voor aanvang van het weekend was het verschil tussen Russell en teamgenoot Fukuzimi slechts een punt in het kampioenschap. In de GP3 worden ook punten toegekend voor pole positions en snelste raceronden en door zijn pole is Russell nu de nieuwe leider in het kampioenschap.

ART Grand Prix was net als de eerste twee raceweekenden uitermate sterk in de kwalificatie: alle coureurs van het Franse team starten binnen de top zes. De hoofrace in de GP3 begint vanmiddag om 17:30 uur.
