George Russell op pole voor hoofdrace, Schothorst keurig achtste

George Russell heeft op een opdrogende Spa-Francorchamps uitstekende zaken gedaan met het oog op het kampioenschap. Het Britse Mercedes-talent start de hoofdrace van vanmiddag vanaf pole-position. Teamgenoot Fukuzumi start als tweede, terwijl Steijn Schothorst de moeilijke openingstraining achter zich liet en zijn Arden-bolide naar een achtste tijd reed.

Schothorst moest weliswaar meer dan anderhalve seconde toegeven op de snelste tijd, maar liet wel een aantal snelle mannen achter zich. Zoals vaker op een opdrogende baan werden de snelste tijden in de slotrondjes gereden. Timing was dus uitermate belangrijk, Russell ging daar het beste mee om en heeft dus goede papieren de leiding in het kampioenschap verder uit te breiden.

De GP3-hoofdrace start vanmiddag om 17:35 uur.
