Russell doet goede zaken kampioenschap, Steijn Schothorst puntloos

Mercedes-talent George Russell heeft zijn pole-position om weten te zetten in een klinkende zege in de hoofdrace op Spa Francorchamps. Dankzij de zege gaat Russell steviger aan de leiding in het kampioenschap. Steijn Schothorst kon zijn goede startpositie niet omzetten in punten.

Bij de start was Russell als beste weg, maar moest de Brit toezien hoe teamgenoot Fukuzumi langszij kwam op het lange rechte stuk na Eau Rouge. Fukuzumi lag vier rondjes aan de leiding, na een Virtual Safety Car sloeg Russell zijn slag op Kemmel Straight. De Brit pakte de leiding en stond deze niet meer af.

In het vervolg van de race vochten Fukuzimi en Jack Aitken om de tweede plek, waarbij Fukuzumi uiteindelijk aan het langste eind trok. Omdat Russell ook de snelste raceronde reed scoort hij extra punten en gaat het met een voorsprong van 22 punten op Jack Aitken de sprintrace in.

De sprintrace, met Julein Falchero op pole, start straks om 09:00 uur.
