Voormalig Red Bull-junior Niko Kari snelste op eerste dag

Voormalig Red Bull junior-coureur Niko Kari heeft de snelste tijd gereden tijdens de Pirelli-bandentest voor GP3-auto's. De 19-jarige Finse coureur was aan het einde van de eerste testdag bijna een halve seconde sneller dan de voor MP Motorsport testende Jehan Daruvala.

Daruvala zette in het begin van de sessie de snelste tijd neer van 1:55.327 maar zag Kari na zestig minuten ongeveer een tiende sneller zijn. In het verloop van de sessie begon Kari de snelheid te vinden. Dat resulteerde uiteindelijk in de snelste tijd van 1:53.890. Deze tijd was bijna 1.4 seconde sneller dan zijn snelste tijd uit de ochtendsessie.

Bent Viscaal verbeterde zich in de middag. De in Albergen geboren Twentse coureur reed met een tijd van 1:55.616 uiteindelijk de veertiende tijd. Viscaal verbeterde zijn tijd uit de ochtend met bijna zeven tienden van een seconde. Hij bleef hiermee de ART van Christian Lungaard en Ferrari Acadamy-coureur Marcus Armstrong voor. Voor MP Motorsport reed Viscaal vandaag 60 ronden, hetgeen neerkomt op een volledige Grand Prix-afstand voor Formule 1-auto's. De GP3-test zal morgen om 09.00 uur lokale tijd verder gaan.

Het GP3-seizoen eindigde afgelopen weekend in Abu Dhabi. Met de wijzigingen betreffende deze klasse is er alsnog getest met het oog op 2019. Pirelli heeft de 2019-banden meegenomen naar het circuit en deze zullen onder de huidige configuratie auto's getest worden.

Niko Kari Reed de laatste F2 races van 2018 nog mee, maar dat was eigenlijk een beschamende vertoning... Hij maakte fouten die helemaal niet zouden mogen

Geen Verschoor bij MP?

Deed het toch erg goed naar mijn idee. Kwam in het GP3 beter tot zijn recht dan in het FR2.0

  Die Felipe Drugovich is er overigens één om in de gaten te houden, met zeer veel overmacht het kampioenschap in het Euroformula Open gewonnen met 14 overwinningen en twee tweede plaatsen, 10 pole positions en 10 snelste rondes.
  
  Bent Viscaal is met enige Twentse trots 2e geworden in het kampioenschap met 1 overwinning, 8 tweede plaatsen, 3 derde plaatsen, 4 poles en twee snelste rondes.
  Dan doe je het gewoon erg goed (Ocon is er in het GP3 kampioen mee geworden zeg maar) en dan ben je volkomen kansloos.
  
  En het team van Drugovich stond echt niet stijf met 4 auto's bovenaan, hun 2e rijder welke een volledig seizoen reed staat pas op de 6e plaats in het klassement. Ben dus benieuwd wat deze jonge Braziliaan ons kan gaan brengen...

  Bij driver db kan je zijn toch best wel indrukwekkende palmares nog beter bekijken...

  Ik heb Bent daarnet nog gesproken en hij vertelde dat het wel een andere techniek vergt om deze GP3 auto te besturen. Vooral de interne bandentemperatuur is anders te managen. Hij staat voor zaterdag weer op de lijst om te testen. Hij heeft vandaag 60 ronden kunnen rijden maar kwam op een nieuwe set banden in verkeer terecht. Desondanks een mooi debuut voor Bent.

  Geen idee. Zal morgen eens kijken op de entry list. Hoop dat hij volledig seizoen kan rijden. Richard stond een beetje stil de laatste 1,5 jaar. Zijn entree in GP3 was geweldig goed
