Dixon krijgt eerste startplaats na afgelasting van kwalificatie

Scott Dixon heeft op wel heel eenvoudige wijze de pole position voor de race op Gateway Motorsports Park gepakt. Door afgelasting van de kwalificatie mag de kampioenschapsleider vanaf de eerste plaats vertrekken.

In de vrije training was Alexander Rossi de snelste geweest, maar in de kwalificatie kon hij zijn goede vorm niet laten zien. Het regende op de oval en dat zorgde voor afgelasting. De organisatie besloot daardoor om de startgrid te bepalen door middel van de behaalde punten per inschrijving. Dat maakt dat Dixon van pole mag vertrekken en dat Rossi naast hem staat op de eerste startrij. Josef Newgarden en Will Power staan op de tweede startrij, Ryan Hunter-Reay en Simon Pagenaud op de derde rij.
