Nasr en Sette Camara mogen zich bij Carlin bewijzen op Circuit of the Americas

De IndyCar Series test deze week op het Circuit of the Americas en Carlin zet daar twee in Europa bekende namen in. Sergio Sette Camara en Felipe Nasr kruipen in de komende dagen achter het stuur van de bolide met startnummer 31.

Afgelopen week maakte Carlin al bekend dat Max Chilton en sponsor Gallagher in 2020 terugkeren bij het team. De Brit, die in 2013 en 2014 namens Marussia in de Formule 1 reed, zit tijdens de races op reguliere circuits en stratencircuits in de bolide met startnummer 59, evenals tijdens de Indy 500. Wie de overige races op ovals voor zijn rekening neemt, is nog niet bekend.

Het is dus ook nog onduidelijk wie de bolide met startnummer 31 gedurende het seizoen bestuurt, maar afgaande op de test in het Texaanse Austin lijken Sette Camara en Nasr de belangrijkste kandidaten te zijn. Nasr heeft zich na zijn vertrek uit de Formule 1 gevestigd in de Verenigde Staten, waar hij in 2018 kampioen werd in de IMSA. Vorig jaar testte de Braziliaan al eens een dag voor Schmidt Peterson Motorsports op Mid-Ohio.

Hij moet de wagen tijdens de testdagen, die op dinsdag en woensdag plaatsvinden, delen met landgenoot Sette Camara. De afgelopen drie jaar kwam hij uit in de Formule 2, waarin hij afgelopen jaar beslag legde op de vierde plaats in het kampioenschap. Het jaar daarvoor reed Sette Camara zich met Carlin naar de zesde plek in het kampioenschap. Ook Nasr heeft in het verleden al voor Carlin geracet: hij werd in 2011 kampioen in het Britse Formule 3 met het team.

IndyCar verzorgt live stream van test

Alle teams zijn dinsdag en woensdag present op het Circuit of the Americas. Dat houdt in dat er liefst 25 bolides op het asfalt te bewonderen zijn en autosportfans kunnen thuis meegenieten van de testsessie. De Amerikaanse klasse verzorgt op haar eigen website een live stream van de test, waarbij het team met commentatoren versterking krijgt van analisten Tony Kanaan en Paul Tracy.
