Rinus VeeKay kijkt tevreden terug op test: "Het was een zeer positieve dag"

Rinus 'VeeKay' van Kalmthout heeft gisteren zijn tweede IndyCar-testdag afgewerkt ter voorbereiding op het nieuwe seizoen. Na 105 testrondjes op Barber Motorsports Park was de Hoofddorper de snelste met een tijd van 1.06.5183 en bleef iets meer dan een tiende voor op de ervaren en viervoudig kampioen Sébastien Bourdais. Voormalig F1-piloot Romain Grosjean - die zijn debuut maakte - werd twaalfde en laatste met een seconde verschil.

De afgelopen maand heeft Rinus VeeKay veel in de sportschool en simulator gezeten. Gisteren kroop de jonge coureur weer achter het stuur van zijn #21 SONAX Chevrolet en legde meer dan een raceafstand af in Alabama. De Nederlander keek tevreden terug na zijn optreden en het verrichte werk. ''Het was een zeer positieve testdag. We hebben het testprogramma volgens planning afgewerkt en ik had een goed gevoel in de wagen van Ed Carpenter Racing. Ik ben natuurlijk blij om bovenaan de ranglijst te staan, al weet ik dat het een testdag is en dat er hier geen punten worden uitgedeeld.” Afgelopen november was de Hoofddorper ook al de snelste tijdens een testdag op Barber Motorsports Park.

De Nederlander komt voordat het seizoen begint nog één keer in actie. Op 1 maart reist de Ed Carpenter Racing-coureur ichting het fameuze circuit van Laguna Seca.
