Titelkandidaat Palou slaat terug en wint GP van Portland, VeeKay op P17

Alex Palou heeft de Grand Prix van Portland gewonnen. Op het permanente circuit van iets meer dan 3 kilometer lang begon de Chip-Ganassi-coureur vanaf pole, maar moest na een chaotische start zich terug knokken om de winst binnen te slepen. Alexander Rossi werd tweede en titelverdediger Scott Dixon, die ook nog kans maakt op de titel, pakte het laatste podiumplekje.

Rinus VeeKay kende een sterke openingsfase en profiteerde van de chaos aan het begin, maar zakte naarmate de wedstrijd vorderde verder naar achteren ondanks een alternatieve strategie. Een zeventiende plaats was het eindresultaat. De Ed Carpenter Racing-coureur begon de race op de 25ste positie na een matige kwalificatie en door een gridstraf vanwege een onreglementaire motorwissel.

Stand

Met de overwinning neemt Palou de leiding weer over in de rangschikking van Pato O'Ward en heeft een puntentotaal van 477. O'Ward staat tweede en heeft 452 punten. Josef Newgarden staat derde met 443 en Dixon heeft er 428. VeeKay zakte naar de 12de positie in het kampioenschap en heeft 291 punten.

In totaal zijn er nog 108 punten te verdienen met nog twee races op het programma. De volgende wedstrijd is aankomend weekend op het legendarische circuit van Laguna Seca. Het IndyCar-seizoen wordt de week daarna afgesloten in de straten van Long Beach.

ik denk dat Veekay te veel probeerd om een slechte setup van ECR werkend te krijgen.

Hij is constant de eerste die glijd... ofwel zijn banden versleten heeft en vervolgens zijn de pitstops constant een seconde of 3 langzamer.

Veekay kakt in naarmate het seizoen vordert heb ik het idee. Al heb ik zwaar t gevoel dat t ook aan ECR ligt🤔

  Overdriven van de ECR ja. En tactisch is het ook niet altijd om over naar huis te schrijven. Zo snel als zijn ster rees, daalt ze op dit moment ook weer vrees ik

Jammer dat Veekay al had getekend voor volgend jaar bij ECR, Penske was wel wat voor hem geweest.
