Montoya wederom namens McLaren aan de start bij Indy 500

Juan Pablo Montoya mag dit jaar op herhaling bij de Indy 500. De 46-jarige Colombiaan verschijnt in mei wederom namens Arrow McLaren SP aan de start van het beroemde evenement op de Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Montoya schreef de Indy 500 in 2000 en 2015 met Penske op zijn naam. Vorig jaar finishte hij voor McLaren als negende.

De voormalig Formule 1-coureur voegt zich voor de Indianapolis Grand Prix - op het infield-circuit - en de Indy 500 opnieuw bij de twee reguliere rijders Pato O'Ward en Felix Rosenqvist. Montoya: "Ik heb vorig jaar een geweldige ervaring bij het team gehad en ik kijk ernaar uit om voort te borduren op de progressie die we toen geboekt hebben. Ik denk dat we goede kans maken om vooraan mee te doen en een gooi te doen naar de winst."

McLaren-directeur Zak Brown: "Juan Pablo is een instituut in de autosport, met zijn twee zeges in de Indy 500 en een indrukwekkende Formule 1-carrière met meerdere overwinningen, onder meer voor McLaren. Hij voegt ervaring toe aan het team en geeft ons een extra rijder met de potentie om op elk gegeven moment een race te winnen."

Voor 2023 is Arrow McLaren SP van plan om voor het hele seizoen een derde auto in schrijven.
