Rinus 'VeeKay' van Kalmthout is het seizoen begonnen met de negende plaats in de vrije training. Op het stratencircuit in hartje centrum was de Ed Carpenter Racing-coureur met nummer #21 vijf tienden langzamer dan Romain Grosjean, die een tijd noteerde van 1.01.052 op het 2.9 kilometerlange stratencircuit in Florida.
