Chris van der Drift naar Olympiakos

Nadat eerder vandaag al Robert Doornbos (Corinthians) en Narain Karthikeyan (PSV) werden bevestigd voor de Superleague Formula, kan ook Chris van der Drift aan deze line-up worden toegevoegd. De Nederlander van Nieuw-Zeelandse afkomst zal komend seizoen namelijk voor het Griekse Olympiakos gaan racen.

Chris van der Drift werd in 2008 kampioen in de Formula Master en reed daarna nog enkele races in de A1GP voor Team Nieuw-Zeeland en in de GP2. In 2010 zal Van der Drift het seizoen racen voor Olympiacos in de Superleague Formula. Hiermee is Nederland goed vertegenwoordigd in de raceklasse van voetbalclubs, nadat eerder al Doornbos en Yelmer Buurman (AC Milan) werden vastgelegd.

"Het zal een totaal nieuwe ervaring voor me zijn om voor een voetbalclub te gaan racen in een raceklasse die ik ook nog niet ken", vertelde Van der Drift. "Juist dat maakt het erg spannend en ik kan ook niet wachten op de eerste race om de kleuren van Olympiakos, een zeer succesvolle voetbalclub, te mogen verdedigen."

Het nieuwe Superleague Formula-seizoen start over twee weken. Momenteel zijn er pas door zeven van de negentien teams coureurs bekend gemaakt.
