Organisatie Assen probeerde FC Groningen naar de grid halen

De organisatie van Superleague Formula-races in Assen heeft geprobeert om FC Groningen naar de raceklassen voor voetbalclubs te halen, zo meldt Dagblad van het Noorden vandaag. De club had echter geen zin in het race-avontuur, dus zal PSV de enige Nederlandse voetbalclub zijn in Assen.

"In het kader van een project voor duurzame energie, dat wij later dit jaar lanceren, leek het ons niet verstandig om aan dit project te beginnen", vertelde directeur van FC Groningen Hans Nijland. "Daarnaast zijn er op 16 mei play-off wedstrijden, waar FC Groningen aan mee hoopt te doen. Daardoor zouden we dus niet aanwezig kunnen zijn bij de races. Verder moesten we ook een bijdrage van 100.000 euro leveren."

Volgens het bericht in de krant heeft de organisatie geprobeerd om Jos Verstappen in de auto van FC Groningen te krijgen. De races in Assen vinden plaats op 15 en 16 mei.
