Chris van der Drift wint tweede Superleague-race in Assen

Chris van der Drift heeft zijn eerste overwinning in de Superleague Formula binnen. De Nederlandse Nieuw-Zeelander was in de tweede race in Assen te sterk voor Craig Dolby van Tottenham Hotspur.

Van der Drift startte de race vanaf de tweede rij nadat hij in de eerste race uitviel met problemen aan zijn versnellingsbak. Hij kende een goede start en sloot aan achter leider Borja Garcia van Sporting Lissabon. Bij de serie pitstops kwam Van der Drift voorbij aan Garcia en was daarna niet meer te verslaan.

Craig Dolby ging beter om met zijn banden dan Garcia en passeerde de Spanjaard in de eerste bocht. Uiteindelijk kwam Dolby 2,4 seconden tekort op Van der Drift die hiermee zijn eerste zege in de Superleague Formula scoort voor Olympiacos. Franck Montagny ging ook voorbij aan Garcia en pakte voor Girondins de Bordeaux de derde plaats, gevolgd door Marco Martinez van Sevilla FC. Garcia reed naar de vijfde plaats.
