Yelmer Buurman sterkste in eerste Superleague-race Nürburgring

Yelmer Buurman heeft zojuist de eerste Superleague Formula-race op de Nürburgring op zijn naam geschreven. De coureur van AC Milan was op de finish 7,7 seconden sneller dan Davide Rigon van RSC Anderlecht. Chris van der Drift completteerde het podium.

Julien Jousse (AS Roma) en Robert Doornbos (Corinthians), die van de eerste startrij mochten vertrekken, kende beiden een mindere start. Tristan Gommendy van Galatasaray leek daarvan te profiteren, maar hij ging te wijd door de eerste bocht, waardoor Yelmer Buurman de leiding pakte, gevolgd door Davide Rigon van Anderlecht.

Doornbos viel terug tot de zesde plaats, achter Franck Perera (Flamengo) en Chris van der Drift (Olympiacos). Vlak voor de pitstops verloor de Nederlander ook nog een positie aan James Walker van Liverpool.

Vlak na die stops werd het nog even spannend voor Buurman, die Rigon opeens vlak achter zich had rijden. Echter, de Nederlander was sneller en eindigde uiteindelijk 7,7 seconden voor op Rigon van Anderlecht. Van der Drift kende een goede pitstop en pakte met de derde positie alweer een podiumplaats.

Franck Perera eindigde als vierde in de auto van Flamengo, gevolgd door polesitter Jousse (AS Roma), James Walker (Liverpool), Robert Doornbos (Corinthians) en Max Wissel van FC Basel. Door zijn overwinning heeft Buurman het gat naar kampioenschapsleider Craig Dolby (Tottenham) meer dan gehalveerd. Dolby eindigde in de eerste race slechts als tiende.
