Alvaro Parente verslaat Montagny in tweede race

Alvaro Parente heeft vanmiddag de eerste overwinning van FC Porto gescoord dit seizoen. De Portugees was Franck Montagny van Girondins de Bordeaux net iets te snel af. Tristan Gommendy pakte voor Galatasaray de laatste podiumplaats.

Polesitter John Martin van Beijing Guoan kwam niet goed weg bij de start en Alvaro Parente pakte meteen de leiding in de race. Franck Montagny (Bordeaux) pakte Martin ook en reed tot aan de pistops 2,7 seconden achter Parente aan.

Beide coureurs kenden een goede stop, maar Montagny gaf zich nog niet gewonnen. De Fransman verkleinde het gat richting de leider in de race tot een halve seconde met nog maar vier ronden te gaan. Echter, Parente kon mijn zijn power-to-pass Montagny van zich afhouden en eindigde uiteindelijk acht tienden voor op Montagny.

Tristan Gommendy (Galatasaray) pakte de derde en laatste podiumplaats en Maria de Villota verrastte met een zeer goede race. De vrouwelijk coureur van Atletico de Madrid pakte haar beste eindpositie ooit met de vierde plaats. Max Wissel (FC Basel) eindigde als vijfde, gevolgd door Craig Dolby van Tottenham. Titelrivaal Yelmer Buurman pakte de achtste stek.
