Sebastien Bourdais verlaat Olympique Lyonnais voor Zolder

Sebastien Bourdais zal komend weekend niet deelnemen aan het Superleague Formula-evenement op het circuit van Zolder. De Fransman heeft Olympique Lyonnais verlaten en heeft waarschijnlijk zijn laatste weekend in Jarama gereden enkele weken geleden.

Bourdais wist de tweede race van het seizoen, op Silverstone, nog op zijn naam te schrijven, maar daarna ging het snel bergafwaarts met zijn team. Er werden geen goede resultaten meer behaald en er volgden veel uitvalbeurten. Dat resulteerde in de zeventiende plaats in het kampioenschap. Bourdais ziet in de nabije toekomst geen snelle verbetering bij het team en heeft besloten Olympique Lyonnais te verlaten.

"Er was geen andere manier om uit deze situatie te komen", vertelde de voormalig Formule 1-coureur van Toro Rosso. "LRS (het team dat de auto van Lyonnais runt) was vantevoren geen raceteam en toen we de auto kregen was deze nog niet raceklaar. Ondanks dat hadden we een goed weekend op Silverstone, maar daarna kregen we alleen maar problemen."

"Voor dit moment heb ik besloten er even mee te stoppen. Ik ga geen schuldige aanwijzen, maar het lijkt er niet op dat er snel verbetering komt. Het team heeft de tijd niet, het materieel en het geld ontbreekt om tegen andere, meer ervaren teams te strijden. We waren elk weekend weer gemotiveerd om het goed te doen, maar het is erg frustrerend als er elke race wel iets fout gaat."
