Yelmer Buurman nieuwe leider in Superleague-kampioenschap

Yelmer Buurman zal de race op Brands Hatch over twee weken beginnen als leider van het kampioenschap. De Nederlandse AC Milan-coureur pakte door goede resultaten in de eerste twee races de koppositie over van Craig Dolby van Tottenham Hotspur.

Het hele seizoen is Buurman al op jacht naar de eerste positie in het kampioenschap en na het weekend in Zolder staat hij dan eindelijk bovenaan. In de eerste race versloeg hij zijn titelrivaal Dolby nog in een rechtstreeks gevecht. Met een prachtige, maar ook gewaagde, inhaalactie verschalkte hij Dolby vlak voor de Paddock-chicane. "Ik was er zeker van dat hij geen gekke dingen zou doen. We rijden immers beiden voor het kampioenschap en uitvallen kan desastreus uitwerken. Dan maar liever vier puntjes verliezen", zei Buurman.

In de tweede race viel Dolby al bij de start uit en pakte Buurman de vijfde plaats en daarmee de leiding in het kampioenschap. "We gaan straks naar Dolbys land en ik sta voor. De druk ligt nu helemaal bij hem. Ik ken Brands Hatch goed want ik heb er Formule Renault en Formule 3 gereden. Het is een hele mooie baan die ik erg graag mag", sloot de AC Milan-coureur af.
