Yelmer Buurman domineert eerste training op Brands Hatch

Yelmer Buurman heeft tijdens de eerste vrije training op het circuit van Brands Hatch de snelste tijd gereden. De coureur van AC Milan was ruim twee tienden sneller dan John Martin van Beijing Guoan. Chris van der Drift reed de derde tijd voor Olympiacos.

Buurman, die sinds het vorige raceweekend de leider is in het kampioenschap, was met zijn 1:15.033 ruim twee tienden sneller dan Beijing Guoan. John Martin pakte de tweede plaats voor de club die in 2008 kampioen werd, terwijl Chris van der Drift ook goed is begonnen op Brands Hatch met de derde tijd.

Max Wissel reed voor FC Basel de vierde tijd, gevolgd door Julien Jousse (AS Roma) en Andy Soucek van Sporting Portugal. De regerend Formule 2-kampioen en testrijder van Virgin kwam een halve seconde tekort op de tijd van Buurman. Craig Dolby van Tottenham Hotspur, de titelrivaal van Yelmer Buurman, kwam niet verder dan de tiende tijd. Robert Doornbos kende veel problemen en reed slechts één ronde, net als PSV's Narain Karthikeyan.
