Chris van der Drift ondergaat eerste operatie na crash

Chris van der Drift heeft gisteren zijn eerste operatie ondergaan sinds zijn heftige crash afgelopen zondag op Brands Hatch. Daarbij liep hij een gebroken enkel op, twee gebroken ribben, twee gebroken vingers en een schouder uit de kom.

Van der Drift wilde tijdens de tweede race op Brands Hatch een inhaalactie plaatsen op Julien Jousse van AS Roma, maar raakte daarbij het achterwiel van de Fransman. Van der Drift werd gelanceerd en kwam hard met enkele koprollen neer op het asfalt. Hierbij vatte zijn bolide ook nog even kort vlam.

Gisteren is de Nederlandse Nieuw-Zeelander geopereerd aan zijn enkel en zal snel ook een operatie aan zijn gebroken vingers ondergaan. Waarschijnlijk wordt Van der Drift deze week nog overgebracht naar het ziekenhuis in Milton Keynes, zijn woonplaats.
