Ben Hanley pakt verrassend pole position voor Olympiacos

Ben Hanley heeft tijdens zijn pas tweede raceweekend in de Superleague Formula de pole position veroverd voor Olympiacos. De vervanger van Chris van der Drift versloeg in de finale voor de pole John Martin.

Hanley en Martin lagen de eerste twee sectoren van de finalerun dichtbij elkaar, al verloor de Australiër in dienst van Beijing Guoan een volle seconde in de laatste sector door een foutje. Hierdoor moest hij de pole position laten gaan aan Hanley, die pas zijn tweede Superleague-weekend rijdt. Op de tweede startrij staan Franck Perrera (Bordeaux) en Andy Soucek (Flamengo) die door respectievelijk Hanley en Martin verslagen werden in de halve finales.

Robert Doornbos was de beste Nederlander. De Rotterdammer kende een goede kwalificatie en pakte de vijfde startplaats, vlak voor de Belg Frédéric Vervisch. Max Wissel was de snelste van de titelkandidaten op de zevende plaats, terwijl kampioenschapsleider Davide Rigon de negende startplaats pakte. Yelmer Buurman kende een teleurstellende kwalificatie en start de eerste race pas vanaf de twaalfde stek.
