Ben Hanley wint eerste race voor Olympiacos in Ordos

Ben Hanley heeft de eerste Superleague Formula-race op het circuit van Ordos op zijn naam geschreven. De Britse coureur, die de vervanger is van Chris van der Drift bij Olympiacos, profiteerde van chaos bij de start en bleef Max Wissel ruim twee seconden voor.

Nog voor de race goed en weg begonnen was, kon Robert Doornbos alweer vanaf de zijlijn toekijken. De Nederlander had de laatste races de stijgende lijn te pakken en startte de race vanaf de vijfde plaats in Ordos. Hij werd echter aangetikt door Andy Soucek, waardoor de Rotterdammer tegen John Martin aanknalde. Hierdoor waren alledrie de coureurs al uitgeschakeld voor de race was begonnen.

Deze chaos gaf polesitter Ben Hanley meteen een voorsprong van enkele seconden, echter liep Franck Perera snel in op de jonge Brit. Bij de pitstops ging het mis voor de coureur van Bordeaux. Perera kende een slechte stop en werd even later nog eens bestraft met een drive trough-penalty voor het overschrijden van de maximum snelheid in de pitlane.

Max Wissel van FC Basel profiteerde hiervan en pakte de tweede plaats over. De Zwitser was snel, maar niet snel genoeg. Uiteindelijk kwam Wissel 2,6 seconden tekort op winnaar Ben Hanley. Earl Bamber, die zijn Superleague-debuut maakte, eindigde als derde, gevolgd door titelkandidaat Craig Dolby van Tottenham en kampioenschapsleider Davide Rigon van RSC Anderlecht. Yelmer Buurman sloot aan, maar verloor dus wederom punten op beide heren met zijn zesde plaats. Perera viel door zijn straf terug naar de zevende stek, terwijl de top-acht gecompletteerd werd door Marcos Martinez.
