Peugeot betrekt Vergne, Di Resta en Magnussen bij terugkeer

Peugeot heeft de line-up voor het World Endurance Championship-seizoen 2022 bekendgemaakt. Het Franse merk keert volgend jaar met een hypercar terug in de lange afstands-racerij en doet een beroep op in totaal zeven rijders, waaronder drie coureurs met een verleden in de Formule 1.

Het gaat om Jean-Eric Vergne, Paul di Resta en Kevin Magnussen. Zij worden aangevuld met 24 uur van Le Mans-winnaar Loïc Duval, voormalig European Le Mans Series-kampioen Mikkel Jensen, LMP2-kampioen Gustavo Menezes en reserve- en simulatorrijder James Rossiter.

Jean-Marc Finot van Stellantis Motorsport: "De kwaliteit van de relatie tussen alle betrokken bij dit project is van fundamenteel belang. Naast hun vaardigheden als coureurs hebben we in onze gesprekken met de rijders vooral gekeken naar wat hen met hun mogelijke teamgenoten bindt."

"Daarnaast hebben we een inschatting gemaakt van hun instelling en hun capaciteit om het team op sleeptouw te nemen. De menselijke factor speelt namelijk een enorme rol in de autosport. We wilden ook dat ze toegewijd waren aan ons project en daar is deze line-up uit voortgekomen."
