Viscaal baalt na 6 uur van Monza: "Enorm frustrerend om in het achterveld te eindigen"

Afgelopen weekend kwam niet alleen de Formule 1 in actie, maar werd er ook geracet in het World Endurance Championship. In Italië werd de 6 uur van Monza verreden. De zege ging weer naar Toyota en in de LMP2-klasse kende Bent Viscaal een teleurstellende race, hij werd negende in zijn klasse.

Viscaal en zijn Prema-teamgenoten Filip Ugran en Andrea Caldarelli kenden in Monza een goed racetempo. Viscaal kon zich zelfs meten met de beste van het LMP2-veld. In de race ging het mis toen de Nederlandse coureur probeerde auto van Vector Sport in te halen in de tweede Lesmo-bocht. De achterkant van de Prema stapte uit en daar een corrigeerbeweging van Viscaal, raakte hij de wagen van Vector Sport. Deze crashte en viel vervolgens uit.

Frustrerend

Viscaal kreeg een tijdstraf en kwam als negende in zijn klasse over de streep. Hij stak de hand in eigen boezem over het incident met de wagen van Vector Sport en spreekt zich uit in een persbericht: "Het is enorm frustrerend om in het achterveld te eindigen, als je weet dat de snelheid in orde is. Ik wil ten eerste mijn excuses aanbieden aan het team van Vector Sport. Het was uiteraard niet mijn bedoeling om hun wagen te toucheren, waardoor ze in een spin raakten en crashten."

Podium

Viscaal was wel tevreden met zijn eigen tempo en gebruikt dat als motivatie voor de resterende race in Japan en Bahrein. In Monza ging niet alles op de gewenste manier: "Dit hele weekend was onder de streep gewoonweg lastig. We hebben op geen enkel moment om de knikkers mee kunnen doen, maar zo gaat enduranceracen soms. Valt het jouw kant op, dan ben je de gevierd man, of in dit geval het gevierde team. Ik blijf erbij: met onze snelheid hadden we op het podium kunnen staan. Vandaag mocht het helaas niet zo zijn."
