Viscaal kent uitdagende race: "Oprecht tevreden met mijn inbreng"

Afgelopen weekend ging het World Endurance Championship-seizoen weer verder met de zes uur van Fuji. In Japan ging de zege naar het team van Toyota, hierdoor veroverde het merk op eigen bodem de constructeurstitel. Nederlander Bent Viscaal beleefde een lastig weekend waarin hij zich in de middenmoot moest handhaven.

Viscaal rijdt dit seizoen in de LMP2-klasse in het WEC. De Nederlander vormde in Fuji een team met Filip Ugran en Juan Manuel Correa. Het Prema-trio had het zwaar en ze moesten zich vooral handhaven in de middenmoot van het sterke LMP2-veld. Viscaal kwalificeerde zich als achtste en tijdens de race reed hij maar liefst drie van de zes uur. Hij reed verder wel een volledig foutloze race waardoor de equipe als achtste in hun klasse werd geklasseerd.

Foutloos

Viscaal had vanzelfsprekend op een beter resultaat gehoopt, maar dat betekent niet dat hij ontevreden is. De Prema-coureur spreekt zich uit in zijn terugblik: "Het was een moeilijk weekend. In de kwalificatie zaten we er niet bij, ondanks dat ik een nagenoeg foutloos rondje afleverde. We moeten onderzoeken waarom we als team zoveel inleveren, want deze uitslagen passen niet bij een team met de status van Prema."

Extra wedstrijd

Aangezien de LMP2-klasse volgend seizoen geen onderdeel meer is van het WEC, kan Viscaal nog maar één weekend gaan genieten. In Fuji deed hij dat ook al: "Ondanks het resultaat kan ik oprecht tevreden zijn met mijn eigen inbreng. Ik heb het maximale uit het materiaal geperst en ik heb mogen genieten van een geweldig circuit. Ik zou hier graag in de toekomst nog een keer racen. Het WEC heeft nog één race op de kalender staan, maar ik weet nu al dat ik nog een extra wedstrijd zal rijden. Welke dat is, mag ik nu nog niet zeggen."
