Ferrari bevestigt gesprekken met A1GP-organisatie

Ferrari en de organisatie van de A1 Grand Prix zijn in onderhandeling over een mogelijk negenjarig contract. De Italiaanse autofabrikant moet vanaf volgend seizoen de motoren en eventueel ook de chassis aan de landenteams gaan leveren. Dat gerucht zoemt al sinds de seizoensopening op het circuit van Zandvoort rond, maar nu heeft Ferrari ook toegegeven in gesprek te zijn.

Een woordvoerder van de Italiaanse renstal bevestigde bij de Grand Prix van China: De onderhandelingen met de A1 Grand Prix zijn begonnen. Momenteel levert Lola nog het chassis en Zytek de motoren, maar dat is vanaf het seizoen 2008/2009 waarschijnlijk niet meer zo.

Onderdeel van de gesprekken zou ook zijn dat Tony Teixeira, de grote baas van de A1 Grand Prix, samen met Ferrari het team van Scuderia Toro Rosso zal kopen. Dat team wordt dan een satelietteam van Ferrari en op die manier biedt de Italiaanse weerstand tegen McLaren dat met ProdriveF1 ook mogelijk een tweede team krijgt.
