Pan-African Racing Series gaat Ferrari A1GP-auto's gebruiken voor nieuw op te starten klasse

In de reportage over de opkomst en de ondergang van de A1GP die wij in december 2018 publiceerden, meldden wij ter afsluiting van de reportage het volgende: “Een trailer betreffende de AFRIX New Exciting Motor Racing Series kwam online op 23 februari 2016, sindsdien is er niets meer van AFRIX Motorsport vernomen. Zo eindigde een project dat in 2003 werd opgezet door Sheikh Maktoum zonder enige glans, zonder glorie en vooral zonder nieuws.” Dit blijkt achteraf iets te voorbarig te zijn geweest, aangezien wij onlangs contact zochten met een insider die een eerder bericht van Autosport magazine kon bevestigen.

AFRIX commercieel directeur Alan Eve verklaarde daarin namelijk het volgende: "Het heeft heel lang geduurd om de nieuwe serie van de grond te krijgen. Maar nu hebben we met Izak Spies een investeerder gevonden met een solide achtergrond." Izak Spies is chemisch ingenieur. "We willen aan het einde van het jaar onze eerste race gaan rijden. We hebben sowieso de voorkeur om de series van start te laten gaan op het circuit van Kyalami", aldus Eve.

Eve verklaarde verder dat: "wat ons betreft het oude stratencircuit van Durban ook gebruikt gaat worden tijdens deze series. We hebben inmiddels contact gehad met de lokale regering in Durban en deze mensen zijn erg enthousiast over de prognoses die wij kunnen maken."

AFRIX is in gesprek om de serie intercontinentaal te maken: "We hebben al gesprekken gevoerd in Botswana bijvoorbeeld. We willen het goed doen en bekijken ook opties in Zuid-Afrika zelf. Een race in Kaapstad rondom het stadion van Ajax-Cape Town, het Greenpoint Stadium, behoort tot de opties."

De vloot van Ferrari A1GP-auto's worden op dit moment race klaar gemaakt. De auto's zullen iets aangepast worden, de cockpitranden zullen verhoogd worden en er zal meer bescherming zijn voor de hoofden van de coureurs. Verder zal het motormanagement systeem ontwikkeld worden door Life Racing, aangezien het originele gedeelte met het Magneti Marelli systeem niet bij de toenmalige deal zat inbegrepen.

  Er zijn verschillende versies. Met de Ferrari motoren zijn van de laatste a1gp seizoenen.

Ik ben heel benieuwd, maar wie moet er in deze serie gaan racen? Oud Formule-1 coureurs of van die kerels van 40 met teveel geld die zo'n wagen kopen of huren voor een seizoen? Persoonlijk zie ik het niet gebeuren dat dit iets voor jongere coureurs wordt die zich nog moeten ontwikkelen.

Nauwelijks de moeite van het vermelden waard dit. Kansloze serie, kansloze toekomst. Deze serie is waarschijnlijk sneller dood dan het leven van een mestkever duurt.

  Tweede hands invalidenvervoer zoals rolstoelen, loopkrukken, trippelstoelen, badstoelen etc worden gratis vervoerd naar Afrika voor de Afrikaanse invaliden die hun eigen Medipoint hebben. Over een aantal jaren als de invalide vluchteling naar Europa komt zien wij onze voormalige hulpmiddelen voorbij komen in ons eigen derde wereldland!!

  Het is niet de vraag of er talent zit, maar wel de vraag hoe je dat opspoort. Deze klasse kan daar een oplossing voor zijn (al zijn karts waarschijnlijk veel nuttiger).
