Nieuw-Zeeland pakt pole voor sprintrace

Johnny Reid heeft namens Nieuw-Zeeland de pole position weten te behalen voor de sprintrace. Daarmee is Nieuw-Zeeland het tweede land ooit dat een thuisrace vanaf de eerste plek mag starten. Eerder deed Robbie Kerr voor team Groot-Brittannië dat. Achter Nieuw-Zeeland eindigde Zuid-Afrika voor Frankrijk dat derde werd.

Tijdens de kwalificatie waren er veel uitstapjes naast de baan van onder andere team China, team Tsjechië, team India en team Libanon. Alleen team Libanon wist niet meer terug op de baan te komen.

Verrassend zijn de tegenvallende resultaten van kampioenschapkandidaten Zwitserland en Groot-Brittannië. Zwitserland kwam niet verder dan een elfde tijd terwijl Groot-Brittannië zelfs als dertiende eindigde.

De eerste twee startrijen worden bezet door Nieuw-Zeeland, Zuid-Afrika, Frankrijk en Duitsland. Jeroen Bleekemolen start de sprintrace als vijfde.
