Frankrijk pakt pole voor hoofdrace

Loic Duval heeft de pole position weten te bemachtigen voor de hoofdrace van de Grand Prix van Nieuw-Zeeland in Taupo. De Fransman bleef team Duitsland nipt voor. Zwitserland en Canada starten als derde en vierde, terwijl Nieuw-Zeeland, die de sprintrace vanaf pole position mogen starten, niet verder kwam dan de vijfde plek.

De kwalificatie kwam pas in de laatste vier minuten op gang omdat niemand de eerste coureur op de baan wilde zijn, vanwege het vele vuil op de baan. Adam Carroll van team Ierland was uiteindelijk vier minuten voor tijd, in de vijftien minuten durende kwalificatie, de eerste coureur die de baan op kwam. De Ier kwam mede daardoor niet verder dan de dertiende startplek. In de daar voorgaande sessies stond Carroll constant in de top tien.

Jeroen Bleekemolen eindigde op de achtste plaats met in totaal een halve seconde achterstand op Loic Duval van team Frankrijk.
