Fauzy vervangt Yoong bij Team Maleisië

Alex Yoong is aan de kant geschoven door Team Maleisië. Fairuz Fauzy bestuurt komend weekend bij de races op het circuit van Eastern Creek de gele bolide van het team. Yoong reed de voorgaande 45 A1 Grand Prix-races voor Team Maleisië en won daarin vier keer, maar zijn tegenvallende resultaten van dit jaar kosten hem de kop.

Teamdirecteur Jack Cunningham legt uit: We draaien belabberd op dit moment en daar hebben we het moeilijk mee. Onze verwachtingen voor dit seizoen lagen veel hoger. We hebben de afgelopen twee jaar duidelijk laten zien dat we wel tot veel in staat zijn. De hoop is dat we met Fairuz, die ook de rookie trainingen mag rijden, de weg naar boven weer kunnen pakken.

Fauzy reed in 2005 al vier races voor Team Maleisië, maar daar bleef het bij. Sindsdien reed hij in de World Series by Renault en nu komt hij uit in de GP2 Asia Series. Ik heb me de laatste tijd meer op andere series geconcentreerd waardoor ik niet beschikbaar was. Ik ben echter dolblij om terug te keren in het team.
