Zwitserland wint sprintrace, titel binnen handbereik

Team Zwitserland heeft de A1GP-titel 2007-2008 binnen handbereik na een dominante overwinning van Neel Jani in de sprintrace vanmorgen.

Jani reed bij de rollende start weg bij de rest van het veld en werd niet meer teruggezien. Rob Wickens van Team Canada baant zich in de eerste bocht een weg langs de Portugees Filipe Albuquerque. Het blijft de hele race een spannend duel, maar de volgorde verandert niet.

Team Zwitserland staat er heel goed voor in het kampioenschap na de sprintrace. De twee andere kandidaten voor de titel, Nieuw-Zeeland en Frankrijk, weten beide geen punten te scoren. Nieuw-Zeeland komt in contact met de Amerikaan Jonathan Summerton en beide moeten de strijd staken. Franck Montagny van Team Frankrijk maakt veel plaatsen goed maar blijft steken op de twaalfde stek, ruim buiten de punten. Neel Jani heeft nu een voorsprong van 31 punten op Nieuw-Zeeland en hoeft in de hoofdrace alleen maar voor Nieuw-Zeeland en Frankrijk te finishen om de titel binnen te slepen.

Jeroen Bleekemolen kent een teleurstellende race en komt aan de finish als zeventiende.
